SUSTAINABLE LIFETYLES AND EDUCATION
BRAKE EVEN
BACKGROUND & RATIONALE
Young learners today grapple with a wide array of academic disciplines at school. These disciplines,
no doubt, broaden the cognitive and academic horizons of the youth, but overlook several other
aspects of learning. Critical issues related to the environment are often not emphasized upon or
understood thoroughly. While this understanding may not be tested in important examinations, it is
required to tackle the global environmental crisis we face today. This is where Brake-Even steps in
and offers a profound yet fun way to develop environmental stewardship amongst young people.
Brake-Even is Swechha’s innovative short-term outreach programme for schools and other
educational institutions eager to engage with issues related to the environment and
citizenship.

Maker’s Day Workshop with NIBS #environment #education #diy #learning #makersgonnamake #shorts
When celebrations meet innovation then something wonderful can be created. We celebrated the Makers Day at Nirmal Bharti School, Dwarka by upcycling waste into vibrant furniture pieces and swings such as see-saw and tyre balls. The upcycled furniture and swing sets were the ideation of students to help surrounding community parks to become vibrant and social.
The students learnt so much about upcycling and making best out of waste in this process. This Makers Day, the students re-established the domains of proper waste management and innovation.

Yamuna Walk
We led a Yamuna Walk in Sonia Vihar with 120 students from Pathways School, Noida! 🚶♂️ Exploring the river's origin and journey, we delved into its social, political, and environmental aspects. From discussing floodplain exploitation to the alarming pollution levels caused by industrial effluents and untreated waste, students gained insight into pressing environmental issues. 💧
Students also had the opportunity of interacting with a few locals, and witnessed firsthand the deep bond between the community and the river, understanding its significance for livelihoods, including fishing and farming. 🎣🌾
At Swechha, we specialize in curating immersive eco experiences for schools, fostering environmental awareness and connection with nature!
Would you be interested in attending one of our walks soon?

CineGreen Change-Makers One Minute Films
10 partner schools were selected and were engaged in a series of extremely
engaging and interesting film making workshops. These hands on workshops stretched across 2 days and focussed on theoretical and practical knowledge behind the working of the camera and process of filmmaking. The 10 one minute films represented the voice and stories
of children and aimed to inspire other students and stakeholders on themes covered. The films were fictional in nature and were driven by voice narratives or ideas discussed during the workshops that the children came up with.
Each of the students participated in the production of a professional film along with film professionals. The two day workshops covered concepts relating to film making theory, storyboarding, storytelling, hands-on training, camera, sound and onset production calls. On Day 2 (the day of shooting), the students themselves became the crew and actors of the films.
Themes such as sustainable fashion, water conservation, urban green spaces, air pollution, upcycling and plastic pollution were addressed in the making of each of these one minute films. A total of over 200 young students were directly engaged in the entire process led by team P se Picture!
